Meet the new PSLRC, short for the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate from Kiehl’s! As you might have already seen in my sneak peek video over here, I was invited to a bloggers lunch at a wonderful loft in Brussels. The whole event was dedicated to one ingredient: vitamin C.
Because I had never tried their previous formula of PSLRC before, I was extra curious to find out! For those of you who are like me and had never heard of this serum before, it’s a celebrated product and bestseller of Kiehl’s that fights against time & wrinkles, makes your skin glow and improves the texture of the skin. I think it’s a damn shame I had never heard about it before, but we’re always keen on learning and discovering new stuff, aren’t we? ;-)
The new formula with 12,5% vitamin C was introduced to us over lunch and we got to take home a 50ml bottle of the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate. Since I hopped on the anti-aging train when I turned 25 last year (prevention, yo!), I was more than happy to test and review Kiehl’s new beau. Let’s have a look, shall we?
This Kiehl’s PSLRC review includes products that were sent to me by a brand or company. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are honest and are all my own. Please read my disclaimer.
PSLRC: Behind The Scenes
Since there’s a bit of science behind this new product, I’ll include the scientific names for the skin geeks among us ;) but I’ll keep it short and sweet as well. Because what matters is what it does! Here’s the deal:
The previous version of PSLRC had 10,5% of pure Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) and Haloxyl in it (a substance that combats dark circles and strenghtens the skin around the eyes). It was a water-free formula.
The new PSLRC has 12,5% vitamin C in it. This is the simple math of 10,5% L-Ascorbic Acid and 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside. The internet provided me with an excellent explanation: “In its pure form, Vitamin C is unstable in water. Ascorbyl Glucoside is a water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C. It is much more stable in water but it is less potent than direct L-Ascorbic Acid. Being more compatible with water allows for a very pleasant serum texture.” In short, the combined substances compliment each other and keep the product stable yet powerful.
And if it wasn’t enough, Kiehl’s also infused hyaluronic acid in the new formula. Just remember that this acid can carry 1,000 times its own weight in water – no wonder this is found in so many skincare and creams nowadays! In one word: hypermoisturising. KAPOW!
Alright – enough formulas, acids and mad scientist talk for today. How did this seemingly powerhouse perform on my skin?
Your Daily Dose of Vitamin C
Let me remind you again that vitamin C is an effective antioxidant, brightens the skin and reduces signs of ageing. So it’s a pretty good start to use PSLRC if you’re starting out with anti-ageing skincare. Another great skincare product is sunscreen, and I have to admit that only until recently I only applied it when I was on a sunny vacation. But now that I’m dealing with acids, I’ve definitely started putting on SPF50 every single day (better late than never I guess!) So let this be a tip, if you’re not already using sunscreen every day: vitamin C makes your skin more light sensitive, so go slap on some sunscreen. Future you will thank you!
You can use the PSLRC day and night right before your moisturiser, on every skin type and for any age. It’s a multitasker for everyone! If you have dry skin you can use two pumps of the bottle. If you have combination skin you can use one pump. Personally, I have a combination skin but I use one pump for my face and one for my neck. So you’ll have to experiment a little with the product to see what dosage works best for you.
Now for how the PSLRC works on me. I love how it gently warms up my skin – don’t worry, that’s just the acids and vitamin C working. It’s a brief warm sensation and vaguely smells like oranges when the product activates on your skin. Personally I would have loved it even more if the scent was stronger. What can I say, I love the smell of oranges. Makes me think of breakfast ;-)
Alongside the warm sensation you get on your skin when you apply the PSLRC, it’s also satin soft. The cream simply melts into the skin and plumps it. Thanks vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid!
One of the hashtags in the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate campaign is #CTheDifference. On the Kiehl’s website they state the following results after using the concentrate:
Immediate: Visibly improved skin and boosted radiance
In 2 weeks: Reduced lines and wrinkles
In 4 weeks: Visibly reduced deep-set wrinkles
The product also boosts firmness and a reduction in appearance of pores after 8 weeks.
I’ve tried the PSLRC for 4 weeks now and while I don’t have any deep wrinkles yet I can tell a difference. Since I look down a lot (I can thank my phone and laptop for that) I have two deep-set lines on my throat that bother me a bit. After using PSLRC for 4 weeks they aren’t completely gone yet, but they have improved! If you take a look on the photo, right under my chin, the lines have faded a bit already. I’ve also noticed the pores close to my nose and cheeks have reduced in size.
And the glow… Man. No make-up can give you that lit-from-within-glow like skincare does! This is exactly the reason why I always say: Skincare first, make-up second! My face is just radiant and there are certainly days that I go with just some mascara and brow gel. Nothing else. Here’s my face – in the middle of my period, I might add! – to show you how glowy I look with zero make-up (except for some mascara, I couldn’t help myself!):
I’m actually proud on how my skin looks at the moment. It still has some red patches, but you have to remember skin is skin – we often don’t realise how much is photoshopped or enhanced with make-up. I have a reactive and sensitive face so it will probably never be perfectly even, but that’s something I’ve made my peace with :-) And I’ll say it again: I shot this photo in the middle of my period, when my face is not on its best. And yet I think it looks pretty great! I think the most important thing is a glowy and moisturised face, no? That’s something the PSLRC can do for you! ;-)
So what do you think? Are you ready for your daily dose of vitamin C and #CTheDifference yourself?
