Every girl has her favourite products. I’m always on the lookout for the perfect lipstick, foundation or mascara. So it’s pretty safe to say I’ve got a few of these items in my make-up stash. One product I’d like to talk about today is lipstick, and in particular the longwear lipsticks. I absolutely love a red bold lip. But what I hate about it is that it keeps smudging or feathering during the day. Not to mention you might end up dodging your boyfriend’s kisses, because half of your lipstick ended up on his cheek…
I’ve tried alot of things:
* Applying a layer of foundation over my lips, before applying the lipstick
* Using a lipliner
* Applying translucent powder over your lipstick
* Blotting with a tissue, re-applying and blotting again
And yes, it might help for a few hours, but after that the feathering starts all over again and to be honest, I end up removing my lipstick entirely for the rest of the day or evening… So what did I do next?
L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lipstick
I didn’t want to give up on lipstick, because… It’s lipstick! It’s such a nice item to add to your make-up look and often it completes your look. So I started looking around for a lipstick that would seal the deal – get it? – and keep my lips perfect for the entire day. I heard alot about the long wear lipsticks and tried a few. They do stay put longer than regular lipsticks, but you’ll have to touch up at some point. Not entirely what I was looking for, but I kept my hopes up!
And then I saw this.
Along came L’Oréal Paris Infallible. I thought, “Well, it looks promising, but I guess 24 hours is probably overrated”.
I decided to give it a try and swatched the boldest colour of red on my hand in the store. Later that day I did the dishes and took a shower in the evening. I was very suprised to see that it hadn’t come off! I had to take it off with waterproof make-up remover, even scrubbing a bit! I was so excited I ran off to the store the next morning and bought two colours: 506 Red and 404 Coral Constant. Later on, when I was fully convinced with this formula, I bought another: 209 Violet Parfait.
This is how it’s done:
1. Scrub your lips. You always get the nicest results by doing this.
2. Make sure your lips are balm-free. Your Infallible Lipstick might start to slip and slide if there is anything left on your lips.
3. If you open up the tube, you’ll see that the applicator resembles a lipgloss wand. Put on your lipstick carefully and precise, because the formula will have set on your lips within two minutes.
4. Don’t smack your lips. Wait two minutes to let the lipstick set on your lips. If the lipstick doesn’t feel sticky anymore, it has set.
5. You can choose to leave your colour matte, but on the other end of the tube you’ll find a balm that gives your lipstick colour a nice smooth look.
And that’s it! To maintain a glossy look, you’ll have to re-apply the balm every now and then. For me, that’s really a small effort in return for perfect lips throughout the day!
Because you’ll have to re-apply the balm from time to time, it’s obvious that the balm will be used up quicker than your lipstick. From my experience, you can use any balm after the lipstick has dried.
Using the one that comes with the lipstick just saves a little more space in your handbag, I guess.
This lipstick does make your lips feel a litte dry afterwards, so I recommend using a balm to nurish your lips.
Let’s talk about the price. These lipsticks are being sold in Belgium for around € 16. Knowing that MAC lipsticks are sold here for € 18, you can state that they are on the pricey side. I just wait around for a promotion or sales, so they are not that expensive. I promise you that these will stay on all day. The boldest colour, 506 Red, stayed on the longest: 16 hours! I applied it at 8:00 AM and went to bed at 12:00 PM. It might have stayed on even longer, but I must confess I bite my lips sometimes… – bad habit alert! –
I really have found my go-to lipstick when I want to rock a bold lip. I really have no problem re-applying subtle pinkish colours, but a bold lip just makes such a statement that I hate messing up.
