Hi guys! It’s finally here: my photos from my vacation in Side, Turkey! Due to some really unexpected bad WiFi reception, I couldn’t manage to upload any Instagram photos during my stay. I hope I can make up for it with a travel post. Enjoy your read!
Instagram Photos Week #28 Travel Edition: Side, Turkey
Our travel journey began at barely 4 o’clock in the morning, when we were dropped off at Brussels Airport. Our flight was scheduled at 05.30 and despite the early hour there was already quite a line for dropping off our luggage… So we patiently waited.
And after a long wait, we finally made it into the airplane: happy smiles! This was taken before it was announced we were missing 7 passengers (20 minute delay) and we had an extra delay of 30 minutes because our landing strip wasn’t available at the airport in Antalya (because we waited for those missing passengers). But after almost an hour delay we were ready to fly!
And boy, were we happy we made it to the pool a few hours later! The first days it was relatively calm at the hotel. More people started arriving after the 4th of July, but since most of them were Russians and Germans, I guess it was just a coincidence the hotel filled up with guests only after America’s favourite holiday!
I actually tried uploading this photo from the first day (July 1st) and I finally got it online at July 8th. Talk about bad WiFi, jeez! Anyways, I was happy I could give a “sign of life” on Instagram, because I had announced you could follow my vacay via #anverelleAbroad and basically nothing got uploaded. Yikes! It was refreshing to go without all the social media, but I wouldn’t want to do it again. Here I’m sitting in the lobby with its beautiful velvet chairs.
One thing that I always get excited about when returning from a great day at the pool or the beach, is discovering the cleaning staff did something special with your towels! They probably did that to every room that day, but I like to think they did it especially for us ;) During our stay they made us a heart and a swan :)
We booked a scuba trip for the two of us and were waiting for our bus to come pick us up. We started playing around with pictures and this is one of them. It must be one of my most favourite pictures of us together! He’s really the best boyfriend ever: he just looks so sweet! I’m totally and madly in love with him and I was super excited to share our first vacation together!
This is the harbour. There were a couple of pirate ships scattered in the bay, but also lots of boats for scuba or to rent. As you can see there were almost no clouds, so it was a very hot and sunny day. Luckily for us we had some wind at sea!
Being on a vacation together means lots of couple-selfies! We really took the opportunity to snap some pictures of us together and really enjoy each other. We were so glad to get out of the hotel that day and enjoy the salty smell in the air, the sea and the sun.
And then it was scuba time! The schedule was to go diving twice; once around noon and the second time after lunch. This picture was taken on the first dive. I was pretty nervous and felt really awkward with the regulator that takes up your whole mouth area. It felt really weird breathing under water and I felt slightly panicky the first two minutes. There was no trying out in a swimming pool: my first dive was immediately 7-10 metres for about 15 minutes… And I loved every second of it!
Treasure! I brought these seashells I found on the bottom of the sea to the surface and took a picture to prove it ;) Another reason why I took a picture is because you’re not allowed to bring anything like this over the border when you go back home. The penalty for trying to bring things home with you that might have archaeological or cultural value is 1 year of prison. Certainly a pity, since I was pretty convinced these simple seashells did not hold any archaeological value. But I didn’t feel like arguing about this matter with the airport police, so I threw them back in the sea ;)
Once a week, dinner is completely Turkish-themed! Come to think of it, this is actually the only food-related picture I’ve got from my vacation. Most of the desserts were jelly-based, but there was also baklava which I loved!
There were 3 buildings with the guests’ rooms and in between the buildings there was an open space with hammocks, benches and a huge chessboard! We didn’t play though, because I’m not familiar with the rules and how to play it. But I thought it was really cool and regretted not knowing how to play chess! We saw lots of kids and families spending their evening there, just playing with giant chess pieces!
We had the most wonderful time together and I’m thankful I could experience his first airplane flight, my first vacation without parents and our first vacation abroad together. We made some very good memories!
On Monday I’m flying to Vauvenarques (France) and I’m 100% sure there will be decent WiFi so if you want to keep up with my adventures in France, come take a look on my Instagram! Travel Insta’s will always be hashtagged with #anverelleAbroad so you can have a nice overview! ;) Don’t miss it!
