Skin Savvy: My Daily Skincare Routine

An old picture of what my skincare routine used to look like. That reminds me, I should put up an updated version! You can find the article here.

How many times do you wash your face daily?
I wash my face two times a day: in the morning and the evening.

What skin type do you have?
I have a sensitive and combination skin.

What is your current facial wash?
I currently use KIKO cleansing milk and a micellar water from La Roche-Posay.

Do you exfoliate?
I do! I try not to forget, but I like to exfoliate once a week. I like an exfoliator with fine grains, because I have a sensitive skin and exfoliating too hard might leave red patches behind!

What brand do you use?
I switch up regularly, but currently I enjoy using an exfoliator by Louis Widmer.

What moisturizer do you use?
When something is finished, there is often something on the market I’d like to try, so I change frequently. Currently I’m using MAC Mineralized Charged Water Moisture Gel and you can find a review on it here!

Do you have freckles?
do have freckles, but only in the summer! In the winter they are barely visible because I get as pale as Snow White, haha!

Do you use eye cream?
I switch between MAC Fast Response eye cream and KIKO Eyes Rescue.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
I used to have acne prone skin when I hit puberty. But apart from the occasional spot, I’m acne-free!

Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
No. But when I hit puberty, I had a dermatologist who prescribed me with some antibiotic cream for my acne.

What foundation do you use?
I currently use VitaLumière Aqua by Chanel (10 Beige), a BB cream by Bobbi Brown (Light) and the Skin Foundation Stick by Bobbi Brown (Cool Beige), which I also wrote a review on.

How about concealer?
I use a concealer from MAC (NW20)  and Bobbi Brown (Light Bisque) and I’m really happy about both!

Do you know your undertone color?
I have a cool undertone.

What do you think of fake eyelashes?
I think they can definitely finish a look, but are more suitable for photography or special events. On the other hand, I find my lashes long and thick enough to go without fake eyelashes :) But I have nothing against someone who wears them everyday. It’s just what makes you feel the most comfortable!

Did you know that you are suppose to change your mascara every 3 months?
I do, I do! I’m aware of the possible eye-infections and such. I don’t follow that rule, but I always make sure I check the smell every once in a while to see if a product really went bad. Oh, and I never borrow my mascara to anyone.

What brand of mascara do you use?
I use two mascara’s by Benefit at the moment: They’re Real and Rollerlash.

Sephora or MAC?
Sephora has a very wide stock to choose from and MAC has some pretty good products which I love! So it’s hard to say… Although I don’t like sticking with one brand for everything, MAC is pretty amazing… I guess I’ll go with Sephora, because you can have a bigger array on products!

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
No, and I’m totally sad about it!

What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
First of all, I use my brushes from MAC and Real Techniques. I also use the Miracle Complexion Sponge to get a flawless complexion, it seriously does wonders for all my foundations. And every once in a while I use a simple eyelash curler from HEMA.

Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
YES. I always, always use a primer for my eyes, simply because I tend to have oily eyelids. It just stays put much better! I use Stay, Don’t Stray by Benefit and a matte primer by KIKO.

For the face?
It’s not absolutely necessary, but I like to use Make Up Forever HD primer.

What is your favorite eyeshadow?
My favourite shades lie in the pink or brown department. They match really well with my green eyes and I’m just not into very heavy colours on my eyes. I love to use my palettes from Inglot, Urban Decay and MAC.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
I use both, but I mostly reach for a liquid eyeliner. It takes some practice, but I think with a liquid you get a more precise line.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Haha, that’s a good one! You know, I wear contact lenses. So I always put those in before I put on make-up. Simply because without them, I would have to come so close to the mirror. I wouldn’t see a thing without poking my eye out with brushes or anything!

What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
Very much of a fan. I sadly don’t own any of those, but my mom has quite some in her stash I can use if I want to ;)

Do you use mineral makeup?
No, actually! I’ve never considered it.

What is your favorite lipstick?
The one lipstick you can always find in my bag is a dark muted pink (I think it’s Strawberry Pink, the name is not visible anymore), together with a MAC lipliner (Subculture). If I want to go bold, I trust on my red L’Oréal Infallible.

How about lipgloss?
You know, I have a love/hate affair with lipgloss. It looks really pretty and then BOOM, your hair gets stuck in it with the tiniest of wind. I have 2 or 3 lipglosses in my make-up stash, but nothing special.

What is your favorite blush to use?
My favourite is a blush by & Other Stories (Applebloom Pink).

Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
No. I don’t have an account and I simply don’t like buying make-up online. I like to try and test out how the colour turns out on my skin or lips.

Do you like drugstore makeup?
Yes, actually. I’ve started experimenting with make-up from my mother’s stash which was already filled with MAC, but I wanted to have some make-up of my own and it started with Catrice, Maybelline, L’Oréal Paris and Bourjois. If I want to test out something new, I often look for a drugstore dupe first. If I like it, I can commit myself to make the jump.

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
YES. I would love to get some make-up classes, but because I had to go to school I didn’t get to it yet. But I’m definitely planning to!

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
I can mess up my eyeliner sometimes, but that’s kinda it :)

Name a makeup crime that you hate?
You won’t catch me with bright or heavy eyeshadow combined with a bright lip. Pick one!

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
It depends! I like colourful on the lips, but for my eyes I usually go neutral. Or, if I want something bright on my eyes, I use a bright eyeliner.

Which celebrity always has great make up?
Oof, that’s a though one! I guess I’ll have to say Lauren Conrad, she’s always done beautifully and natural.

If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
Tough beauty questions #2! I’d say brows and lips! But since I really have to pick one, I’d say brows. They can really frame your face!

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Yes, and I’ve done it quite a few times already. Sometimes I just don’t feel like it, or I just want my face to “breathe” a bit. It actually feels good in the evening to not have to remove all that make-up! (I still cleanse my face regardless if I’ve had on make-up or not!)

Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
As you could read in my answer above, I’m not that bothered by leaving the house without make-up. I think I look fairly good without it. Nobody’s perfect! My skin is most of the time even, so I could go without foundation if I really wanted to. Here’s a picture I posted on the blog without make-up, if you’re curious! ;)

What do you think of Makeup?
I think make-up is something to express yourself with and the most important thing is to feel comfortable with and without it. Make-up can be used to enhance your features. And if you want to completely transform yourself by shaping a different nose and cheekbones, that’s fine too! At the end of the day, make-up is just make-up and it can be removed with the swipe of a face cloth!
